The Talented People I Know

I like to keep company of those who work hard and strive for doing great, creative things no matter what the field. Here's a list of family, friends, & acquaintances that I'm particular impressed by/happy for etc.

Entrepreneurs

Nicholas Coriano-runs Homescape LLC & the business I'm particularly interested in because of its similarity to what we offer here at lAWFULLY Technical- Push Your Rank.

Art Geigel- where to start?!!? OmniaSoft? Creator of Groundbooth for law students? Or his most recent , groundbreaking, and potentially market changing iOTOS!

Drew Lambert- MBA candidate, Principal and General Manager of DJR Companies-investing in the future.

Nick Fregga- 12' softball and pickup basketball game guru as well as founder of Connects Card, newly launched Synergistics Investment Group LLC, as well as A2E Athletic Training LLC.

Austin Coulson- the things he does to cars...go see for yourself and check out The Coulson Group.

Musicians & Artists

Kathleen Krueger and her band- The Fortune Tellers.  The new album is well worth the listen, download/buy, & share.

Nick Scariato- Freelance Traditional & Digital Artist as well as Musician in the band The Hairlips.

Matt Speno- aka Clancy Woodside...he's a jack of all trades: Musician, Artist, Writer, Producer, etc etc.

Steve Griggs- can check him out at his SCGMedia or even better check out the latest videos he has been producing.

Fabulous People

Lucas Peter- started Life of Lucas. He knows celebs and you do not.

Writers

Emily Belden- She's becoming famous and most people are not. Find out more and read more about her at TotalEbag and/or follow her hilarious tweets. She also made a floor out of pennies with her boo.

Eireann Dolan- talk about blowing up and hilarious tweets! Seriously smart, seriously funny, and seriously mad at me.

John-Michael Damato- what can I say, he loves Elvis, making movies and writing books. He's good at all of these things.

Chefs

Tom Op'tHolt- cookin' fool. Let him put something in your mouth.

Pat McCroy- Beer and wine specialist at the Standard Market.

Lauren Boveri- whip it...whip it good. At least I think that's what she does in the kitchen. Either way, girl can cook.

If I've left anyone out it was unintentional. Please message me and I will amend, otherwise, this is a pretty impressive list. Please click through the links and show their work some love.

MLB Playoffs 2012: Battle of the Bay Series?

Last night I had the pleasure of watching the Oakland Athletics clinch a 2012 Playoff spot.

Being a native Chicagoan and die hard Cubs fan, it's not very often that I've been able to be a part of the experience.  It was highly enjoyable and I cannot wait for the Cubs to be in the same position.  I think the Epstein/Hoyer front office team will get it done.  But, I digress and would simply like to say congratulations to the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics for making the Playoffs as well as share this banner photo for Bay Area fans.

Binding Corporate Rules: "Data Flow is Good, Protecting it is a Right."

Whether you're a privacy professional, wonk, or lay person the fact of the matter is your data and your privacy should be important to you.  While many of the EU's directives and implementation among member states have received a broad spectrum of reviews, they are leading on privacy rights and allocating resources to educate their citizens.

Regardless, multinational companies have adopted Binding Corporate Rules ("BCR") as internal rules defining global policy regarding the international transfer of personal data within the same corporate group to entities located in countries which do not provide an adequate level of protection.  Furthermore, these multinational companies use BCR in order to place adequate safeguards "for the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals within the meaning of article 26(2) of Directive 95/46/CE. [lex Europa].

What's important to keep in mind is that the free flow of data is generally in the best interest of society, but there is a growing sense being reflected in policy that individuals have a fundamental right to their data being safely protected.

This is ["New"] Myspace: Who Doesn't Love a Comeback?

"The only question now is can Myspace get over the fact that, well, they're Myspace."

In some respects it's appropriate to feel a bit shocked over the "New" MySpace.  However, as I said in June of this year with "Do You Have Any Pinterest in Myspacebook," MySpace was undergoing a significant overhaul beginning with their mobile app and re-branding.  Therefore it's not as surprising how well their new web based platform appears it will be.

The startup world, especially in social media seems to move at the speed light, but it was only four years ago that Facebook first passed MySpace, two years since Twitter accomplished the same, and one year since LinkedIN similarly did.

In fact, it wasn't until 2010 that Techcrunch declared, "Hell [Froze] Over As MySpace Fully Surrender[ed] to Facebook." While many in 2008 declared MySpace effectively dead and long may Facebook live, in 2006 MySpace was set to "take over the world," as they overtook the perviously mighty but failing Friendster.

So what has changed at MySpace? New ownership, new control, big ideas coming from celebrity-artists who have designed MySpace as a "new" platform. At this point users, visitors, and critics must fight the urge to look at MySpace as if it's new on top of old, but rather act as if MySpace is a demolished structure upon which a new and palatial one has been built. But, will the demolition go off like the New Frontier in 2007, or more like these [video].

More importantly, there's a history behind all things and that includes social media [Infographic available]; perspective should not be lost.  Although we have yet to see a resurgence, or "come back kid" of the social media world, if ever there could/would be one, I'd put my money on MySpace.  Frankly, we'll have to wait and see the site's layout, how well its features operate and how user friendly the platform is before we analyze which titan stands to lose the most from a MySpace resurgence.

It's clear that Specific Media LLC & Justin Timberlake have their work cut out for them and while they do that, enjoy the irony of Justin Timberlake playing Sean Parker in "Social Network" then purchasing MySpace.

The only question now is can Myspace get over the fact that, well, they're Myspace.

Scrolling Frustration! A Simple Fix

Any owner of a new Mac with an up to date operating system is aware of the "disappearing" scroll bar(s).  While this may give your browser or your document a cleaner look, in practice it can be quite frustrating.  In fact, I finally went out in search of an answer to this problem when I could not update the music from iTunes to my iPhone because the scroll bar was disappearing just as I would hover over it to move past the first 8 musicians who happened to start with the letter A.

Here's how to fix this if you're as frustrated as I was:

#1- at the bottom of your desktop, click on the System Preferences icon in your dock
#2- the System Preferences will open up and look like this

#3- Click on General in the upper left hand corner

#4- Adjust your settings under "Show Scroll Bars" to either

  • Automatically based on mouse or trackpad
  • When Scrolling
  • Always [which I prefer]

I hope you found this post to be a helpful problem solver.  Please leave comments and suggestions for future posts.
